International Visa
An International Visa requires documents and Qualifying International Medical Insurance. The best way to handle a visa is by going to a consulate in the US. Using a Visa Company in the country when you arrive at your destination country can cost you a lot and the insurance they will sell you is very expensive, no network of contracted english speaking doctors and pre-existing conditions may be excluded. Either way you will need to have International Travel or Permanent international medical insurance. Trip Insurance is NOT medical insurance.

Understanding Travel Medical Insurance

Travel medical insurance is designed for citizens of most countries who are planning a trip outside their home country.

Certain destinations, such as those in the Schengen Area, require travelers from specific nationalities to carry medical insurance to qualify for a visa. Similarly, some U.S. visas also mandate proof of medical coverage. Without insurance, medical treatment in a foreign country can be expensive.

WorldTrips provides two primary travel medical insurance options for single trips: Atlas Travel® and Atlas Premium™. Atlas Travel is the most commonly chosen option, offering balanced coverage, while Atlas Premium provides enhanced benefits with higher coverage limits for travelers seeking broader protection.

For frequent international travelers, Atlas MultiTrip™ offers an annual travel medical plan that provides coverage across multiple trips. Atlas Nomads™ is a flexible option for non-U.S. residents who travel for work and may need medical protection while abroad. Groups of five or more can benefit from Atlas Group®, which offers travel medical coverage for an entire party at a discounted rate.

Worldtrips Tokio Marine HCC is a $71B International specialty Insurance company. Many countries require you to have proof of medical insurance. Worldtrips meets Schengen, EU and other countries insurance requirements.

You could be asked to show proof of insurance to enter the UK, EU/Schengen Treaty Countries and other countries. With WorldTrips you could be standing at the airport with your tablet, computer or phone and enroll in a qualifying insurance plan on the spot. Problem solved.

Let's Get You Going.

The U.S. Department of State recommends that all travelers obtain international medical insurance before traveling abroad, as neither Medicare nor Medicaid covers medical expenses outside the United States. It's crucial to understand the limits of your existing health insurance coverage and potentially supplement it with a travel insurance policy that includes medical and evacuation coverage.
Key Recommendations:
  • Check your existing health insurance:
Contact your provider to see if your current policy covers you for medical care, including emergencies and potential medical evacuation, while abroad.
  • Consider travel insurance:
If your existing insurance has limited or no international coverage, obtain a separate travel health insurance policy.
  • Evaluate medical evacuation insurance:
For travel to high-risk or remote areas, consider purchasing a separate medical evacuation policy, which can cover the cost of emergency transportation to a medical facility.
  • Be aware of potential costs:
Medical expenses abroad can be high, especially for emergency care or evacuation. For example, a medical evacuation can cost well over $100,000.
  • Utilize State Department resources:
The U.S. Department of State (.gov) provides information on travel health, including insurance and medical resources, on its website and through its Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).
  • Familiarize yourself with local medical facilities:
The State Department website for the country you are visiting may have a list of doctors and hospitals.

What’s the Difference Between International Travel Insurance and International Travel Medical Insurance?

Trip insurance...

Trip Insurance serves to insure a financial investment in a trip. The core benefit of travel insurance is the trip cancellation benefit, which provides reimbursement for nonrefundable, prepaid expenses if you must cancel your trip due to a covered reason. Many travel insurance plans provide additional benefits related to other travel expenses as well. Coverage for medical expenses may or may not be included depending on the plan.

Why Else Might I Need Travel Medical Insurance?

Even if you’re traveling to a country that doesn’t require travel medical insurance or COVID-19 coverage, there may be certain situations where travel insurance coverage can be helpful, like:

Lost Checked Luggage or Travel Delay

When it comes to inconveniences like the airline losing your checked luggage or a travel delay that’s more than just a few hours long, a travel medical plan can help compensate for necessary expenses. Reimbursements for clothes and toiletries as well as accommodation and meals are frequently provided in these situations.

Illness or Injury

No matter how careful you are with your health, traveling can increase the risk of various illnesses and injuries. While insurance can’t prevent these things from occurring, it can help pay for the cost of a necessary emergency room visit or treatment.

Terrorism

Some countries have political and social upheaval that can pose a threat to travelers and locals alike. A travel medical insurance plan like Atlas Travel may include a Political Evacuation benefit that could cover the cost of transporting you back to your home country, depending on your current location’s security status. It’s also wise to seek coverage with a Terrorism benefit that can help pay for medical expenses for injuries from a covered terrorist attack.

Kidnapping

Express kidnappings – actual or attempted abduction and holding of someone against their will for personal belongings or ransom. Tourists are especially easy to target due to their different attire and language.

When common sense isn’t enough to keep you safe, a benefit like Atlas Travel’s Crisis Response coverage can help pay costs associated with ransom and loss of personal belongings. It also provides an experienced, multilingual crisis response team to support your family and negotiate your release. Make sure to check your plan’s policy documents for limitations regarding the Crisis Response benefit.

Requirements Are Constantly Changing

Countries are continuing to implement medical insurance requirements and COVID-19 coverage requirements for their visitors. The U.S. Embassy websites for countries often have the most up-to-date information on what the country may or may not require. Stay informed for your next foreign adventure.
